It seems as though the Fall sports season just started, but many have concluded or are quickly approaching their state championship tournaments.
The Alta Hawks Boys Golf Team just concluded their season finishing in 2nd place in Region 7 and 14th overall in the 5A State Tournament this year. Way to represent!
The 2019 UHSAA State Cross Country Championships will be held Wednesday, October 23 at Sugarhouse Park and Highland High School. Morgan Jensen holds the fastest girl’s course time of any female cross country runner in Utah in 2019 with a time of 18:07 on September 27th at the Park City Invitational
Region 7 play has concluded the Hawks Girls Tennis Team and the 5A State Championships begin Thursday, October 10th at Liberty Park Tennis Courts (900 South 700 East, SLC). Senior Brinley Horton plays as the #2 seed from Region 7 in the 1st singles bracket. Senior Sarah Ovard plays in the 2nd singles bracket as the #2 seed from Region 7. Sophomore Grace Anthony is the #2 seed from Region 7 in the 3rd singles bracket. Rebecca Russell, So, & Brooklyn Dowdell, So, represent Alta in the 1st doubles bracket. Our Lady Hawks Volleyball team currently has a record of 12 wins and 9 losses and sit in 4th place in Region 7 play, but are in the #11 position in the new UHSAA RPI power rankings. Every team will participate in the 5A State Playoffs with seeding being determined by RPI rankings. The Lady Hawks have 5 more matches left in the regular season to try and improve their playoff seeding before they start the 2019 playoffs on November 5th. If the girls finish at 16th or above in the RPI they will host that first round match up.
The regular season is over and the playoffs are about to begin. Like volleyball, soccer this year is operating on an RPI power ranking system and every team will make the playoffs. The rankings are not posted the last two weeks of the regular season, but our Lady Hawks were sitting at #18 in the RPI rankings at the last posting. They finished Region 7 play strong by beating Mountain Ridge and Orem to finish the season with an overall record of 7-7-2 and a 5th place finish in Region 7. The final RPI will be released this week and the Hawks will find out where they open the 2019 playoffs. Good luck ladies!
Our Hawks football team has had a bit of an up and down season that has been marked by injuries to key players. They have played a very challenging schedule with several highly ranked teams on their schedule, but are currently sitting at 4 wins and 3 loses with a 3-1 record in Region 7 and a 2nd place standing with one game to play. Football is also using the RPI power ranking system this year to determine playoff seeding, where all teams will participate in the playoffs. After an exciting come from behind win over Lehi this past Friday night the Hawks find themselves at #11 in the RPI. The Hawks will host a 1st round playoff game if they finish anywhere at #16 or above in the RPI.
Winter Sports Soon to Begin!
Swimming tryouts for both girls and boys took place last week. Competition season begins the first part of November. If you are still interested in competing, you will need to make sure you’re registered to participate at www.registermyathlete.com and then talk to Coach Kimble or Coach Paystrup. The other winter sports Alta participates in are Basketball (boys & girls) and Wrestling.
For any and all sports sponsored by Alta High School, student athletes must be cleared through Register My Athlete BEFORE they will be allowed to even try out for the sport they wish to play. Being cleared means having completed ALL requirements on RMA, one of which is a complete physical indicating the student athlete is healthy enough to compete. The Physical Form A must be used. Paying the pay-to-play fee is not required before tryouts.
Basketball & Wrestling begin on Monday, November 11th.
